Afghan Foreign Minister met with his Polish Counterpart in Kabul

Dr. Zalmai Rassoul siad that European Union will play a more active and efficient role in the peace and stability process of Afghanistan.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs- H.E . Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, the Afghan Foreign Minister met with his Polish Counterpart Rodoslaw Sikorski yesterday morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two ministers talked about the important bilateral issues, the transition process, national reconciliation and regional interactions.

Dr. Zalmai Rassoul expressing appreciation for the cooperation of the Republic of Poland in peace keeping and reconstruction stated that the Afghan people are grateful for and will never forget the cooperation of the
Polish people. The foreign Minister also added that since Poland has the rotational chairmanship of the European Union we are hoping that the European Union will play a more active and efficient role in the peace and stability process of Afghanistan. Afghanistan is in the threshold of signing long term strategic treaties with its international partners and is also interested to sign a long term strategic document with the European
Union.

The Polish Foreign Minister expressing appreciation for the warm welcome extended to him while his visit to Afghanistan emphasized on his country’s continuous support for Afghanistan. He stated that the transition of the security responsibilities to the Afghan forces by no means implies the exit of Poland from the reconstruction and development process of Afghanistan. 
It is only the exit of the Polish military forces. Poland and the rest of the
EU members are committed to cooperating in Afghanistan’s post 2014 politics,
development and economy.

At the end of this meeting the two Foreign Ministers attended a joint press
conference and answered to some questions by Afghan and foreign journalists.
