Taliban attack leaves 6 police dead in Helmand

Taliban fighters raided a police checkpoint in the southern Helmand province Sunday killing six police, a local official said.
"The rebels stormed a police checkpoint in Gereshk district at 7:00 a.m (GMT0230) killing six police and destroyed the checkpoint," Abdul Ahad Khan the governor of Gereshk district told reporters.
He also added that police also had inflicted casualties on Taliban militants, but did not give exact figure.
Meantime, Taliban purported spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi in talks with media from undisclosed location claimed that seven policemen were killed in the gun battle lasted for a while.
He further confirmed that one Taliban fighter was injured.
Taliban militants have vowed to launch Spring Offensive stepping up attacks against government interest this year in Afghanistan.
