Pakistani forces kill 25 militants in tribal region

(Xinhua)_Pakistani security forces Sunday killed 25 militants in a counter offensive after Taliban attacked a check post in a tribal region, the army said.
The army said that seven soldiers were also injured in the attack in the Mohmand agency tribal region near the Afghan border.
A security official said that some 200 armed militants attacked a check post at the Ambar area with heavy weapons early Sunday, injuring seven security men.
He said that the security forces launched a counter attack and killed 25 militants and injured 15 others. He said that the militants suffered many casualties when they tried to remove bodies.
There was no independent confirmation of the casualties and reaction from the militants.

The official said that the security forces used tanks and heavy artillery in the counter attack.
Officials said that militants from Bajaur and Waziristan tribal regions had arrived in the Mohmand agency to join the local Taliban for attacks on the security forces.
