Some Herati Residents Sell Their Kidneys Due to Poverty

The Guardian reported on Sunday that the severe poverty and displacement in Afghanistan have left its citizens facing difficult and disappointing choices.

In the meantime, a displaced family in Herat said he sold his young daughters because of hunger.

Delaram Rahmati, the caretaker of eight family members, also plans to sell his kidney to provide for his family.

“I had to sell two of my daughters who are eight and six,” Rahmati said.

Rahmati said that a few months ago he sold his daughters for 100,000 afghanis to families he did not know.

Recently, reports were published about the selling of kidneys, according to which many citizens, especially in Herat, have started selling their kidneys due to poverty.

Meanwhile, reports of kidney sales come as the country’s economic crisis has seen an unprecedented rise in and hunger.
