World Bank, other organizations politicized Afghanistan’s health sector: Taliban

Officials in the ministry of public health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said that the World Bank and other international organizations had promised to support Afghanistan’s health sector until 2024, but they have stopped the support now.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_They said that the financial support has now stopped which has caused serious problems to the health sector of Afghanistan but added that they are doing their best to save the sector from collapse.

Speaking at a press conference in on Saturday, January 1, 2022 deputy minister of public health Abdul Bari said the sector would be in the same position during the previous government had the international community stopped supporting.

Abdul Bari Omar said that they are still busy treating up to three and half million without the support of the international community and any financial support.

“The World Bank had pledged to be supporting Afghanistan’s hospitals until 2024 but when the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regained power over Afghanistan, the support halted. The stopped supporting the project of containing -19 while Afghanistan’s finance ministry had allocated no budget for the pandemic.” Said Omar.

About the malnourished children, the deputy minister said 3.2 million children are now malnourished and that low-quality medications, food insecurity, , lack of breastfeeding, and the effects of war are caused of the situation.
