Indonesia may reopen embassy in Kabul

Indonesian media have cited officials in the country’s Foreign Ministry saying that they will soon reopen their embassy in Kabul and commence constructive engagement with the Taliban.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_ announces its diplomatic mission resumption at a time when the de-facto leaders-the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan- is yet to be formally recognized by them.

Indonesia has now become the third Asian country after India and that announces the move just in the past ten days.

Along with nearly all foreign embassies in Kabul, also shut its embassy after the US and had been running the mission in since then.

Abdul Qadir Jailani, a senior authority in the ministry of foreign affairs of Indonesia said that they will initially engage with the Taliban in the areas of humanitarian assistance, assistance to , and academic scholarships but acknowledged that the engagement does not mean recognition of the Taliban.

“We will continue assessing Taliban’s commitment in forming an inclusive government, fighting terrorism, respecting human and women’s rights. We want to see an inclusive and open Afghanistan as this is crucial for stability in the country that will also reduce the risk of terrorism.” Said Jialani.

Indonesia has also confirmed their attendance in ’s foreign ministers’ summit comes of December 19 in Pakistan.
