Who is head of the Taliban’s caretaker government?

More than three weeks after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, they announced a 33-member caretaker government that will be led by Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund.

Hassan Akhund who is in his seventies now was deputy prime minister and deputy foreign minister of the Taliban in the 90s.

The -born_Akhund is a pure Pashtoon and was a member of the leadership council-Rahbari Shura- of the Taliban post-2001 but was not seen nor named during the two-year peace negotiations with the US in Doha.

Mullah Muhammad Hassan was one of the closest figures to the founder of the Taliban, Mullah Muhammad Omar, and is also said to be closer to the supreme leader of the Taliban, Mullah Hebtullah Akhund.

The new post of Hassan Akhund which has been named as head of the directorate of ministers equals prime minister who will be accompanied by two deputies, namely Mullah Abdul and Mullah Abdul .

The supreme leader of the Taliban, Mullah Hebtullah Akhund will remain as the supreme leader.
