Conflicts in Kunduz province, provincial capital is burning

Hours after the Taliban launched mass attacks on the strategic province of Kunduz in the north of Afghanistan on Sunday morning, August 8, the city is now burning and people are struggling to save their lives.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Video clips from the city show flames and smokes of rages inside the city and people are running out of the scene to save their lives.

Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah in his Twitter post said that the city caught fire after Afghan Air Force conducted airstrikes on the city but the Afghan government has commented yet.

Afghan Ministry of Defense said that fresh commandos have been deployed to the city and have cleared Abdul Razaq square from the Taliban fighters. The Ministry said that operations are going on and the city will soon be cleared of the Taliban.

The Taliban claim to have taken the headquarter of the national police, local office of National Directorate and Security (NDS), and central jail of Kunduz province in the provincial capital.

The northern Kunduz province is now the fourth province fallen to the Taliban.

Yesterday the fighters toppled southwestern , the northern Jawzjan which are now followed by Kunduz and then Saripol provinces. The Afghan government has not confirmed the collapse of the latter mentioned provinces.
