Biden approves $100 million for Afghan refugees
US President Joe Biden has authorized up to $100 million for Afghan refugees and those impacted by the ongoing violence in Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Ths assistance will also cover applicants for , Biden said in a memo released by the on Friday.
“Such assistance may be provided on a bilateral or as appropriate, including through contributions to international organizations and through funding to other nongovernmental organizations, governments, and United States departments and agencies,” he added in the memo.
The move comes amid deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan as are withdrawing from the country.
The Taliban have made rapid territorial gains since early May when last foreign troops began withdrawing.
Earlier this month, the Biden administration formally launched “Operation Allies Refuge” to evacuate Afghans who assisted US troops during the 20-year war, starting with Afghans who were already in the process of applying for SIVs.
