CPJ asks Afghan authorities to conduct investigation into killing of Reuter’s photojournalist

Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) published a statement on Friday condemning the killing of Reuter’s Photojournalist Danish Siddiqui while covering the conflict between the Afghan forces and the Taliban.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_CPJ in its statement asked the Afghan government to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the killing of .

    The Afghan government should do everything in its power to protect members of the press, reads the statement.

The was talking to shopkeepers while covering the ongoing clashes between Afghan government forces and the Taliban in Spin Boldak crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Reuters President Michael Friedenberg and Editor-in-chief Alessandra Galloni wrote on Twitter that the news agency was asking for more information about the circumstances surrounding the death of Danish Siddiqui.

Though no one has claimed responsibility for the killing, the Taliban spokesman Zabiullah told Reuters that they had not been aware that there was a journalist on the scene.

Head of High Council for National Reconciliation in a statement condemned the killing of Danish Siddiqui and called it the opposite of all Islamic and humans values.

Danish Siddiqui was an Indian photographer of Reuter’s news agency who had also won the Pultizer Prize for feature photography of in 2018.
