US embassy in Kabul resumes immigrant visa interviews

US Embassy in Kabul has resumed immigrant visa interviews, it said in a statement Monday, a month after it suspended visa operations due to new wave of COVID.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_The initial phase will involve rescheduling applicants who had their interviews postponed to mitigate elevated COVID risk, the statement said.

Once this phase is complete, the embassy will resume scheduling new immigrant visa appointments for applications that are documentarily complete.

It said that due to ongoing -mitigation measures, the embassy will have a reduced appointment capacity.

The Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) has assisted over 15,000 Afghans relocate to the United States after they completed faithful service to the United States, often at great personal risk, US Charge d’Affaires Ross said.

“We are working hard to process SIV applications and have interviewed more than 1,600 along with their family members since April. Now that ##immigrant_visa interviews have restarted, we look forward to seeing many more applicants in our Embassy,” Wilson said.
