Key military base vacated in Laghman province, Taliban claim to have ousted government forces
Statement released by the provincial office of eastern Laghman province, illustrates the reason behind evacuating military base in Bad Pakh district.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_The statement adds that the base was vacated for duly provision of equipment, reinforcement and addressing problems of Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
Provincial statement dubs the evacuation as successful while Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid in his recent tweet says the government forces were driven out of the base.
The twitter post of Zabiullah Mujahid further adds that building of the district office along with the building of police headquarter seized by Taliban fighters.
Zabiullah Mujahid claims the military base to be soon after evacuation while neither Afghan officials in Kabul nor the provincial officials confirmed bombardment.
Statement of Lagham provincial office reads that the base was left behind in accordance with the order of president Ashraf Ghani and was successfully transferred to its second location in the district along with its weapons, vehicles and personnel.
It comes as defense ministry claims to have killed 29 Taliban fighters and wounded four more in aerial and land operation of commandoes in Alisheng district of Laghman province in past 24 hours.
