Badghis province falls to Taliban
People representative from Badghis province in parliament confirms that the province’s central city Qala-e-naw falls to Taliban fighters Tuesday noon after the militants toppled several districts of the province yesterday.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Abdulbasir told Khaama press that the Taliban militants had besieged the capital city and had launched mass attacks before full takeover.
Provincial governor of Badghis province has also confirmed that all the districts of the province have fallen to Taliban after heavy conflicts between the Taliban fighters and government force members.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah too said that its fighters have entered into -e-naw city.
There is purportedly heavy gunfight going on between the Taliban and provincial office of National Directorate Security. The central prison of western Badghis province has also reported to be broken and tens of prisoners have been freed but local officials have not commented yet.
As conflict between Afghan government forces and the Taliban continues and large number of districts being exchanged between the warring sides over the past one and a half month, this is the first time that Taliban fighters take over a province.
The provincial capital in western Afghanistan falls to Taliban at a time when its delegation led by Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanikzai is holding talks with Afghan politicians in Tehran.
