Afghanistan vs. Zimbabwe: First Test Match Kicks Off

Afghanistan's national cricket team plays against Zimbabwe in the first match of a Test series on Tuesday.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_The match kicked-off at 10am Kabul time at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in #Abu_Dhabi.

Afghanistan opted to bat in their first Test against Zimbabwe.

Rashid Khan is not in the first match’s squad due to a finger injury.

“Khan was injured during his stint in the #Pakistan_Super_League where he played for the Lahore Qalandars franchise,” #Afghanistan’s_Cricket_Board (ACB) said last week.

It was the first time that Khan played in the PSL.
Khan left the Lahore Qalandars after playing in just two matches in order to join the Afghan national team.

It is Afghanistan's fifth Test, and their first since November 2019, while Zimbabwe have not worn whites in just over a year, since February 2020, according to an ESPN report.

It's something of a restart for both sides with Afghanistan's squad containing eight uncapped players and two teenagers: opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran and fast bowler Mohammed Saleem.

Asghar Afghan, is again the captain. He was in charge for their first two Tests but then the position was handed over to Rashid Khan.

Zimbabwe have also included some new names, due to injuries and illness affecting some of the key players.

The Afghan umpire Ahmad Shah Pakteen is playing in Afghanistan's two Test Series against Zimbabwe, according to ACB.

Pakteen will be the first appointed Afghan umpire to officiate in a Test match.
