Govt. negotiators return to Kabul, Taliban’s Baradar goes to Islamabad amid pause in talks

Afghan government negotiators have returned to Kabul while Taliban’s deputy leader Mulla Baradar has gone to Islamabad after the sides paused peace talks in Doha.

Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for #Taliban’s_political_office, said that Baradar was visiting #Islamabad following an official invitation.

During the visit, Taliban delegation will meet Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and discuss issues including Afghan refugees.

Meanwhile, Afghan government negotiators have returned to Kabul and are expected to meet with head of High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah today (Wednesday).

The negotiating teams agreed on a pause until 5th January for #consultations on the agenda items.

Meanwhile, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday visited Pakistan where he held a meeting with the country’s military chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Gen. US commander of international forces in Afghanistan, Scott Miller, also accompanied Khalilzad.
