Ghani Discusses Afghan Peace, Women’s Rights with Nancy Pelosi
President Ashraf Ghani attended a video conference with the Speaker of the US Congress and a number of members of the US House of Representatives.
The video conference was attended by First Lady, First Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib, and Chief of Staff Dr. Fazal Mahmood Fazli.
Roya Rahmani, Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United States, was also connected via video conference.
According to the statement, both sides expressed concerns over the escalation and rage of violence during the talks, and the United States’ continued commitment to Afghanistan, the peace process, and its next steps.
An urgency required for women’s rights and a ceasefire was also discussed during the video conference, #Presidential_Palace stated.
This comes as intra-Afghan talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban in Qatar have stalled for 20 days break.
