Afghan Gov’t Shares Vision for ‘Self-Reliance’ in 2020 Afghanistan Conference

GENEVA, Switzerland – The 2020 Afghanistan Conference on “Peace, Prosperity and Self-Reliance” will be held on 23-24 November in Geneva, Switzerland, where the Afghan Government and the international community will determine their shared commitments to the development and stability of Afghanistan in 2021–2024.

The 2020 Afghanistan Conference is a ministerial pledging conference, co-hosted by the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Government of Finland and the United Nations.

Due to the serious Covid-19 situation in #Switzerland, the Conference will take place virtually, with the Palais des Nations in #Geneva remaining as the hub for all logistics, according to a press release.

Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar and Minister of Finance Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal is expected to be present in Geneva. UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons will speak on behalf of the United Nations.

“The Government of the Islamic #Republic_of_Afghanistan shares the vision and aspirations of the Afghan people and the National Peace and Development Framework of Afghanistan for a stable, progressive and #self-sufficient Afghanistan,” said Spokesman for the President Sediq Sediqqi in a tweet.

The conference coincides with the ongoing efforts between the Afghan and Taliban delegations in #Qatari_capital Doha that is expected to determine peace and stability in Afghanistan.
