Alice Wells To Discuss Afghanistan In Islamabad Visit

Alice Wells will hold a meeting with the Pakistani civil and military leadership to discuss bilateral issues and Afghan peace process.
She had opened the talks with the Taliban in July last year but the US peace envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has been dealing with the Afghan issue.
Pakistani media reported that the visit is aimed to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Before this, US defense department notified the Congress last week of its decision to approve military sales worth $125 million logistic and technical support for Pakistan’s F-16 fleet days after Prime Minister Imran Khan met President Donald Trump at the White House.
Both sides will also have followed up talks in the wake of understanding between Prime Minister Khan and President Trump, according to the report.
However, it’s not yet clear that she will also visit Afghanistan during her trip to Pakistan.
Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan had assured Khalilzad of Islamabad's full cooperation for the restoration of long-lasting peace in Afghanistan.
