One NATO soldier dies in southern Afghanistan

ISAF service member died of wounds following an improvised explosive device ( IED) attack in southern Afghanistan.

A NATO soldier died on Wednesday in restive southern Afghanistan, the military alliance confirmed in a statement.

"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died of wounds following an improvised explosive device ( IED) attack in southern Afghanistan today," the NATO-led ISAF said in the statement.

The brief statement disclosed neither the nationality of the victim nor details about the incident under the ISAF policy.

The casualty brings to three the number of foreign soldier who have been killed in Afghanistan since Tuesday morning.

Two other NATO soldiers lost their lives in two separate IED blasts in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Troops mainly from the United States, Britain and Australia have been stationed in the southern region within the ISAF framework to curb Taliban-linked insurgency there.

Militancy has been on constant rise since the Taliban launched its spring offensive on May 3 this year.

A total of 198 foreign soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan so far in 2012.
