Ex security chief Nabil says Democracy died in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced the final results for the 2019 election, introducing Mohammad Ashraf Ghani the elected president for the second time.
According to the IEC, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani secured 50.64% votes out of 1.8 million votes cast on the 28th of September 2019.
Rahmatullah Nabil, the former Head of the National Directorate of Security of Afghanistan and a Presidential candidate for 2019 said expressed his concerns following the announcement of the election results.
“Unfortunately today was the day of the demise of democracy in the country”, Nabil said in a statement published in his Facebook wall.
It will be a new start of the security, political and economic crises in the country, Nabil said.
“If Ghani or anyone else had won the election based on transparency, we had the courage to congratulate, but today I offer condolences to Ghani”, Nabil added.
This comes as, Afghanistan’s Presidential election result was announced on Tuesday, after a prolonged delay of around 5 months.
