US peace envoy briefs Afghan president after visiting Pakistan
Khalilzad arrived in Kabul in his second leg of tour to eight countries. The tour is his third after taking over the role in September.
He began the tour by visiting Pakistan where he met also Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan who pledged help to find a political settlement to the Afghan conflict.
In Kabul, President Ghani told the envoy that the Afghan government announced its negotiating team during Geneva conference last week, adding the government has firm determination for peace in the country.
At the meeting where Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah was also present, Ghani said that joint efforts for peace could help achieve dignified and sustainable peace.
Khalilzad’s latest tour includes also Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium, UAE and Qatar.
