Former PC Chief of Balkh Asif Mohmand sentenced to jail
The former provincial council chief of the northern Balkh province Asif Mohmand has been jailed for five years and two months on charges of forgery.

Mohmand, one of the key critics of ex-Balkh governor Ata Mohammad Noor, was found guilty of forgery during the preliminary court hearing organized by the anti-corruption justice center.

He was arrested nearly ten days ago in Balkh international airport days after he had accused Ata Mohammad Noor of being involved in massive corruption and there are reports that he was held into the custody by forces belonging to Balkh governor.

However, the provincial governor’s spokesman had earlier said the Momand was arrested on the orders of the Attorney General’s office, a claim which was later rejected by the officials of the Attorney General Office.

He was found guilty of forging signature of the first vice president for the misuse of his authority for his personal interests and was jailed for five years and two months.

The officials in the Attorney General’s office confirmed that the first round of the trial for Asif Momand was organized in his absence as he was not present during the court hearing.

The officials further added that the primary court has sentenced Mohmand to five years and two months to jail on charges of forgery.
