Afghanistan fall short in thriller
Fabian Allen scored a brilliant half-century as the West Indies Under-19s defeated Afghanistan Under-19s in a thriller in the fifth place play-off semifinal of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at the ICC Academy 2 in Dubai.

Allen scored 92 to rescue the West Indies from a precarious position after they had opted to take first strike. West Indies posted 215 and Afghanistan made a fine chase of it with opener Shahidullah and scoring 51 and Hashmatullah Shaidi making an unbeaten 52. But the Afghans fell short by nine runs, after being bowled out for 206 in 48 overs.

In the Plate Championship semifinals in Abu Dhabi, hosts UAE lost to New Zealand by five wickets at the Shaikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium, while Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs at the Nursery Oval 1.

Ken McClure scored his second consecutive half-century to help New Zealand Under-19s get the better of UAE. McClure smashed seven boundaries and a six for an unbeaten 62 to help New Zealand chase down 141 in 32.2 overs. Put into bat, the UAE were left tottering at 85 for seven before they were all out for 140 in 49.2 overs.

Today, Australia take on South Africa in the second semifinal at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The winners will meet Pakistan, who had defeated England, in the final on March 1.
