209th Corps-based Afghan forces kill 54 Taliban militants
Afghan army's 209th Corps said Monday its members killed 54 Taliban militants in operations in northern part of the country.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA), Thirteen more were injured in the offensive which took place in two provinces, according to a statement from the corps.

In one operation in Kunduz, Afghan Special Forces killed 35 insurgents and arrested six others in Esa Kheil village of Chardara district during the night.

In another raid in the same village, ground and air forces killed 13 militants and injured seven more including deputy shadow governor of Taliban for Chardara district. According to the military statement, six Taliban militants including their group commander Naqibullah were killed in a cleanup operation in Pusht-i-Bagh village of Sayyad district. Six more militants were injured while 10 motorbikes used by the insurgents were destroyed.

The operations come three days after Taliban carried out a major assault on the 209th Corps in Mazar-i-Sharif, killing at least 150.
