Government Being Reluctant in Election Process: IEC
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) says the government is being reluctant regarding the election process, warns that if the budget was not provided for the commission, holding the elections would not be possible on scheduled time.

AVA- Speaking at a joint press conference on Tuesday in Kabul, the members of the IEC said that three months passed since the commission has presented its polling stations’ plan to the Presidential Palace, but the commission is yet to receive response.

“There is lack of government’s support to the commission since a year or so, and these issues should be solved,” said Gulajan Abdul Badi Sayad, a Spokesman for the Election Commission.

Wasima Badghisi, the Operational Deputy of IEC, meanwhile, urged the government to support the commission and elections process.

However, the President’s Office said that the government is committed to hold the parliamentary elections on the scheduled time.

“We have taken necessary steps to ensure security and financial sources,” Dawa Khan Minapal, the Deputy Spokesman of the President’s Office said, adding that the chairman of the election commission will be announced based on the Electoral Law.

This comes as the election commission was expected to use new technology in the process of preparing the voters’ list; however, the commission said it will make the voters’ list using the existing National ID Cards (Taskera) which will cost roughly $30 million.
