Ghani Appoints Two More Deputies For NSA
The NSA spokesman says the office has five deputies who cooperate with the national security adviser in the relevant matters.

AVA- President Ashraf Ghani this week appointed Atiqullah Nawsher, former deputy head of President’s Administrative Office and Yasin Zia, former governor of Takhar, as new deputies of the National Security Adviser.

They will coordinate, information and command as well as policy, coherence in the secretariat.

A few months ago, President Ghani appointed Sayed Anwar Sadat, a close aide to the first vice president Abdul Rashid Dostum, Gen. Din Mohammad Jurat, Yama Karzai and Sulaiman Kakar as deputies of the National Security Advisor’s Office.

Sayed Anwar Sadat, who did not want to be removed from Faryab province, was sacked by president Ghani after warnings from former Faryab governor.

Atiqullah Nawshir worked in the President’s Administrative Office for at least one year.

Other deputies of the National Security Adviser are Hakim Nawrozi, the deputy of the National Security Advisor for provincial affairs, and Farid Mamoonzai, acting deputy head of the National Security Advisor for policy affairs.

Qader Shah, the spokesman for the National Security Advisor’s Office, said the national security advisor has five deputies, but with the new appointments, the number will rise to eight.

“The National Security Adviser’s Office, which is led by the national security adviser, has five deputies who cooperate with the national security adviser in the relevant matters,” he said.

Analysts said it is a new move by the incumbent government.

“Unfortunately, to satisfy a number of individuals, symbolic positions which have no executive authority, are created and they not have any benefit to the security of Afghanistan,” said Jawed Kohistani, an analyst in political affairs.

Sayed Ishaq Gailani chairman of the National Solidarity Movement of Afghanistan said the National Security Advisor’s office is a small organization in many countries, but he said, the office is now one of the biggest security institutions in Afghanistan.

“The (National Security Adviser’s) office has at least seven deputies. This shows work interference. This office has at least 1,000 employees which are higher than in a number of ministries,” Gailani told TOLOnews.

This comes after the office of the former National Security Advisors had two deputies.
