The problem of security in Afghanistan is some concern on the part of the Organization of the Collective Security Treaty.
Such an assessment has been expressed by the CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha in Moscow during the meeting of the CSTO working group on Afghanistan.
As the press -secretary of the organization Vladimir Zainetdinov says, the participants discussed the prospects of development of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as measures taken by the CSTO countries in connection with the impending withdrawal of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the country.
Bordyuzha, giving an assessment of the situation in the IRA, said it was still quite difficult and its development prospects were still not encouraging.
Bordyuzha noted that in connection with the announced plans for a significant reduction of foreign military presence in Afghanistan by the end of 2014 one could see apparent reluctance on the part of ISAF to take active steps to combat illegal armed groups.
"This problem is relegated to the Afghan national security forces, namely the army and police, which are not yet ready to provide security and law and order throughout the country on their own, and their losses are quite significant", said Bordyuzha.
This year the heads of the CSTO member states the Afghan problem and its impact on security, primarily in the Central Asian region of collective security has been seen as a priority.
"Specific solutions have been taken to counter challenges and threats emanating from Afghanistan, as well as concerning the assistance the Republic of Tajikistan in strengthening the protection of the Tajik-Afghan border state, where the situation is the the most difficult one. Practical work on their implementation has already started", said the CSTO Secretary General.
During the meeting the members of the working group supported the presented assessment of the situation in Afghanistan.
The team activity was also attended by the head of the secretariat of the OSCE Secretary General Marcel Peszko (Slovakia) and the representative of the department to combat transnational threats of the OSCE Secretariat Oksana Nazarchuk (Ukraine). They gave their assessment of the situation in the IRA and generally agreed on the need for joint action of the CSTO and the OSCE to prevent possible threats emanating from Afghanistan.
